In the course of human history, the torch, the lamp, the lantern, the electric
light have performed the task of rendering the night 'friendly', of illuminating
the gloom of darkness, recreating as far as possible the light of day within
the various domestic surroundings.
Heliopolis is a lamp that allows one to choose among the infinite tones of
color the sun creates in the span of a day, thus endowing form and image to
natural light, so changeable, so incredibly rich in colors, much more than
those our usual lighting instruments succeed in recreating. Without a doubt,
such a lamp constitutes a notable improvement in the qualitative status of
our perceptual and psychological planes - the light produces well-being, the
color is sensation. Heliopolis is a substantial step forward in respect to
the current offer of lighting appliances.
Color is a fundamental experience in man's life: the passage of the seasons,
the alternation of day and night, the continual changing of the sky at dawn
and sunset. All these states of luminosity influence our state of mind. They
excite us and they calm us, they sadden us and they stimulate us, they make
us carnal and they make us spiritual, but the great spectacle of light never
leaves us indifferent.

Heliopolis
was created in the first Competition Workshop held in the Franciscan sanctuary
in Greccio, Italy in 1994. It represents the simplest and, at the same time,
the most effective solution to the challenge of recreating with a lamp the
infinite tones of color the sun creates in the span of a day. Heliopolis,
the colors of the sun in a lamp.
